The Houston Marathon Goes Virtual

The Greater Houston areas’s weather has been ideal for running these past few weeks. Many competitive runners have been putting in the miles and are eager to test their endurance. Since 1972, Houston has been host to one of the most anticipated sporting events, The Houston Marathon. The very first marathon race Houston hosted was in 1972 with 113 participants, but has now grown to approximately 20,000 participants and 250,000 volunteers.

This year the Houston Marathon is going virtual amidst the current pandemic. Participants choosing to register for the virtually can complete their race anytime between Jan. 8-17, 2021. Run data must be uploaded through an online account.

If you have already registered for the event, there are options to choose from. Participants can race virtually and receive a discount for the 2022 race, defer their race to 2022 or 2023, or donate their entry fee.
