Track and field: Pearland athletes qualify for Junior Olympics

Numerous Pearland-area athletes representing the Pearland Track Xpress team will compete in the 2013 AAU Junior Olympic Games being held July 27-Aug. 3 in Detroit, MI.

Athletes who finished in the top five of each individual event (or top four in relays) at the Region 19 national qualifier meet at Klein ISD stadium in each age group qualified for the Detroit games.

The Pearland track team is in its third year of existence, and 81 percent of its members qualified for the national games.

“We knew we were building a special team as the year progressed, but these results were beyond all our expectations,” head coach Edmond Ewing said. “I am extremely proud of the hard work put in by all our athletes throughout the spring and summer.”

Pearland athletes who qualified for the meet are Peter Alba, Mahogany Antoine, Joshua Benford, Aaliyah Broussard, Lauren Carter, Lauryn Clay, Vergis Cockrell, Jaelyn Compton, Jordan Compton, Genesis De La Cruz, Tryniti Ernest, Robert Ernest, Cherylle Finlay, Vincent Fisher, Joseph Hayes, Markell Heath, Parker Honn, Justin James, Christian Jordan, Devonte Levine, Calilyah Lilly, Cameron Lilly, James Lyles, Michaela McCall, Malcolm McCall, Evan Odom and Racquel Paz Rubio, Courtney Pitts, Kayla Sharp, Kaleb Sharp, Bryson Stokes, Asia Williams, Deonte Williams and Orvin Williams.
