Three Pearland Independent School District artists received top ratings at the Texas Art Education Association State Visual Art Scholastic Event on April 5.
After TAEA professional jurors evaluated their work, Pearland High School’s Stephanie El-Quran and Dawson High School’s Matthew Wu received a state superior rating and VASE state medallion, and DHS’s Priya Kass earned a state excellent rating. Throughout Texas, more than 26,000 students participated in regional VASE events this year, but only 1,626 qualified for state.
Advancement to State VASE is the highest level of achievement in visual art in Texas.
At the Regional VASE event in February, El-Quran, Kass and Wu won area medals for superior ratings in Division 4 -- the most advanced division available to participants.
VASE recognizes exemplary student achievement in visual arts, with individual and original expression reinforced through the application of art elements and principles and research of historical and contemporary work.
While attending the State VASE Exhibition, students had the opportunity to participate in workshops, master artist demonstrations and portfolio reviews by college representatives.
