For Crystal Carbone, serving as a member of the Library Board offers an opportunity to connect reading, books and local libraries to create a sense of belonging in the local community.
“I love that I can contribute to something that offers a place for the community to congregate and connect,” she said. “It is also that I feel like reading is such a crucial part of cultivating a soul; I appreciate being able to volunteer for a cause that makes reading available to everyone.”
Carbone, a graduate student studying clinical psychology at the University of Houston Clear Lake, was among several residents re-appointed to board positions by the Pearland City Council Monday (Oct. 14).
The council also approved the re-appointment of three members to the Pearland Economic Development Coroporation (PEDC) Board of Directors for additional two-year terms. Charles D. Gooden, who currently serves as PEDC Board Chairman was re-appointed to serve as Position One Board Member. PEDC board members Rushi Patel and Sheila Fischer were also re-appointed to their positions.
The council unanimously approved the re-appointment of Rubye Jo Knight to serve another two-year term as Position Six on the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone. Assistant City Manager Jon Branson was re-appointed to an additional three-year term on the Animal Shelter Advisory Board by unanimous vote.
Mayor Tom Teid, Councilmember Tony Carbone and Tom Pool were also re-appointed to the serve another two-year term on the Development Authority Committee.
