Pearland’s Tied to the Inaugural Pink Ribbon Parade & Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month across the nation and local resident Amy and her daughter Isabella have gone above and beyond to raise money and awareness for the disease. During an art class Isabella and her friend Hailey created a pink ribbon sculpture entitled “Butterfly Kisses”, which was shown during Houston’s Inaugural Pink Ribbon Parade. Isabella’s sculpture depicts the life cycle of a butterfly on a life sized pink ribbon because when a “patient is healed it’s like the butterfly emerging from its chrysalis”.

Amy and her family raise awareness and funds for the cause through two charitable organizations, Waltz Warriors and Pink Ribbon Projects. This year the family was able to raise enough funds to provide 50 mammograms at a UTMB Clinic via the Pink Ribbon Projects. Isabella and her friend Hailey also created a special pink ribbon inspired quilt that they sold by $5 raffle tickets, which ultimately raised $2,000 for the cause.
