Over Spring Break 2011, more than 50 Manvel High School Students traveled to Venice, Florence, Rome and Pompeii, Italy. The students were joined by Manvel High School Fine Arts Department Chair Lisa Savage as well as art teachers Vicky Satterwhite and Meghan Anderson. The trip is held each year to encourage students to both embrace and learn about a different culture.
During the students' stay in Italy, they visited the Isle of Murano where they enjoyed an art lesson at a 15th Century glass blowing factory. They also went on tours of San Marco Square, the famous “Duomo”, St. Peter's Basilica, the Roman forum, Trevi Fountain, and Piazza Navona.
“We appreciate the school board for the support of our second successful international art and architecture tour of Italy,” said Lisa Savage. The students are all back safe to the classroom now, but will never forget the experience made possible by Alvin ISD.
