Girl Scouts kick off recruitment season

When a girl says, “I can’t wait to,” you know that what’s coming next is something she’s excited about. Whether she’s talking about tomorrow’s trip to the art museum or football game next Saturday, that wide-eyed anticipation is one of the best parts of childhood. Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC), one of the largest Girl Scout councils in the U.S., is giving girls the opportunity to make memories that last a lifetime by being a part of the premier leadership organization for girls. It’s kicking off recruitment season with rallies across southeast Texas.

Recruitment rallies are happening soon for Alvin ISD and Pearland ISD residents whose children are zoned to EC Mason, Don Jeter, Savannah Lakes, Mary Merek, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Glenn York, Manvel Junior High, Nolan Ryan Junior High, Manvel High, Challenger, Silvercrest, Silverlake, Massey Ranch, Barry Miller Junior High, Rogers Middle and Glenda Dawson High. Homeschoolers and children attending private schools who reside in these areas are invited to participate. All girls in kindergarten through 12th grade are invited, along with their parents.

“Girls are succeeding in many areas today – in the classroom and on the playing field,” said Mary Vitek, GSSJC CEO. “Yet, 61 percent of girls are deeply ambivalent about leadership. Girl Scouts helps girls develop their leadership skills and have the confidence to take on the leadership roles of the future in all aspects of society in a fun and safe environment.” Troops are formed based on the availability of adult volunteer leadership. Men and women may volunteer.
Girl Scouts of the USA is the world's preeminent organization for girls, with a membership of more than 3.2 million girls and adults. Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Chartered by GSUSA to provide Girl Scouting locally, Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council is the second largest Girl Scout council in the country serving more than 66,000 girls and 19,000 adults in 26 southeast Texas counties. Girl Scouts celebrated its centennial in 2012.
