Texas Department of Transportation (TxDoT) Public Information Officer Deidrea Samuels has an update for drivers who are growing impatient with the traffic back-ups on the Gulf Freeway. “The Dixie Farm Road bridge was actually removed not long ago and we are right now looking to have the traffic on Dixie Farm Road open to traffic by the end of this month,” Samuels said. The interchange construction is in the first of four-phases. Samuels could not say for certain if “the end of this month” will be before or after the Wings Over Houston Airshow, October 27-28 at Ellington Airport. TxDoT has adjusted the timing and sequencing of traffic lights at nearby intersections – Scarsdale, Dixie Farm, Clear Lake City Boulevard (FM 2351) – to meet the traffic conditions but anticipate some backup. Samuels adds, “Highway 3 is always a good alternate.” The area between Beltway 8 and NASA Road 1 is about midway down the list of the “100 Most Congested Places” in Texas. Samuels said TxDoT has plans, but not funding to do future construction to try and alleviate back-ups. For construction and Houston transportation updates, visit http://www.houstontranstar.org.
